For over two decades, Star Consultants, Inc. (Star) has provided specialized consulting services for the testing, analysis, recommended corrective actions, and documentation for building envelope improvements. These services include horizontal and vertical envelope surfaces and select sub-surface applications for a broad range of projects for both the public and private sectors.

Star has the equipment and expertise to perform infrared thermography, core sampling, and in-depth visual analysis for roof and wall systems. In addition, Star utilizes drone technology to provide enhanced photographic records for projects when necessary and appropriate. Star’s experts have led, coordinated, and directed others in the execution of limited destructive testing to provide forensic evaluations of a wide variety of building types.

With senior staff maintaining memberships in the Roof Consultants Institute and the National Roofing Contractors Association, Star actively stays current on the practices and issues impacting the roofing industry for the benefit of building owners. Star professionals have provided roof evaluations and analyses for nearly every type of roofing system currently in use including composite shingles, slates, wood shakes, metal with various seaming options (hydrostatic vs. hydrokinetic), all types of membrane systems (e.g. EPDM, PVC, KEE, TPO, liquid applied, etc.), built-up roofing systems (e.g. modified bitumen, roofing felts, etc.) and others. Typically, Star analyses include recommendations for improvements and services are expanded for the preparation of construction documents to repair/replace the roofing systems.

Star’s envelope consulting also addresses wall system failures and improvements. Over many years of practical experience, Star consultants understand how vapor and weather barriers behave and where to place them for optimal performance which are key elements to successful envelope. Whether composite wall systems include metal panels, wood, masonry, concrete or other materials, Star’s expert investigation will reveal the cause and facilitate an effective solution. For example, masonry repair recommendations have ranged from simple tuck pointing to major structural replacements. Each solution is appropriate to the specific client and the situation.

Another component of Star’s envelope consulting services includes the evaluation and recommendations for improvements to building fenestration. Window systems are reviewed for performance, condition, historic significance, aesthetics, and functionality. Star has provided documents for the analysis and replacement for window systems in projects ranging from recreational lodges, to higher education facilities, to military installations, to correctional institutions and many others. Each facility required and received detailed attention to provide improved thermal and weatherproof performance, better function and aesthetics complimenting each application.
